There are so many good and similar restaurants that stumbling upon a unique quality spot feels extra special. You should make a reservation in advance but we were able to get on a waitlist at the door around 8:45 and seated by 9:15pm. Staff were friendly but not pushy. We had the Bo kho beef stew that had tender beef and a rich broth with warm spices. We also got the garlic noodles, mostly because there was a special that had soft shell crab instead of prawns. I had low expectations for garlic butter noodles but the noodles were perfectly stir fried and more complex than expected; while the tobiko didn’t offer much flavor, the color and texture was a great counterpoint. Both mains were equally strong and filling portions. We also got the sangria and sake. I’d recommend the sake. Do not get the sangria, which is somehow both very sweet and very watery with more of a juice flavor than a wine + fruit flavor. The atmosphere is relaxed. It’s a little warm on a hot humid summer night. The quality and uniqueness of food and staff really put this closer to a 5 than a 4.

This Vietnamese restaurant excels in every aspect—from plating and flavor to texture. The balance of each dish is remarkably well executed. The service was attentive throughout, and the dining environment felt comfortable, intimate, and private. The appetizer, the clam salad, was especially impressive. The sesame cracker was incredibly crisp and beautifully shaped like a large seashell, making for an elegant presentation. The clam salad itself was deeply flavorful, with tender clams and rich Vietnamese seasoning. Despite the generous filling, the cracker remained perfectly crunchy and never became soggy, reflecting a thoughtful and carefully crafted approach to the dish. For the first entrée, we had the garlic noodles topped with two large prawns. The noodles carried a subtle seafood and black pepper flavor; the pepper was gentle rather than overpowering, adding just the right amount of depth. Tiny fish roe added a delightful textural contrast, bursting lightly with each bite. The seasoning was exceptionally well balanced, making the dish both satisfying and refined. The second main course was the stewed beef served with the restaurant’s house-made bread. The bread was truly outstanding—its crust was beautifully crisp, while the interior remained moist, airy, and incredibly soft. It showcased a remarkable level of craftsmanship and deserves special praise on its own. As for the beef stew, it was richly seasoned and deeply infused with flavor. The cut of beef included connective tissue, yet it had been slow-cooked to a perfectly tender, melt-in-your-mouth texture. Served with carrots and a broth clearly simmered from an abundance of fresh tomatoes, the dish felt comforting, authentic, and carefully prepared. Every element reflected the kitchen’s attention to detail and genuine dedication to quality.
This restaurant was a fantastic treat. I would call this Vietnamese with contemporary flavor, perhaps Vietnamese comfort food. The food was delicious. I enjoyed it all. The garlic noodles are great, particularly the crab meat garlic noodle special dish on our night. The ribs were wonderful. Flavors were delightful. Cocktails were also a little twist on the usuals. The staff made the dinner special. The whole crew of them were so kind and friendly. I enjoyed interacting with our server Paolo. One of our trio of diners is somewhat of a regular at Saigon Social and they treated him special, including amuse-bouche and other perks. (He also bought the kitchen a round of beers at the end) I wish I would have had the opportunity to meet the chef Helen Nguyen that night. It’s a small size restauaunt, tables crowded in the room. Make sure to book ahead to ensure you get a table. I highly recommend this restaurant and plan to return here.
We had a wonderful experience at Saigon Social in NYC. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly and attentive waiter who helped guide us through the menu and finalize our selections. Everything we ordered—from the appetizers to the main dishes—was excellent. Each plate was beautifully prepared, incredibly tasty, and very inviting. The flavors were truly divine and balanced, making every bite enjoyable. Great food, warm service, and a welcoming atmosphere made this a memorable meal. We would absolutely return and highly recommend it.
