JoJo by Jean-Georges
New York
En un coup d'œil
Avis
I'm no fine-dining connoisseur. I genuinely can't tell my roommate's $500 machine espresso from instant coffee. But it's NYC Restaurant Week, the one chance us mere mortals get to do more than peek through the windows of places like Jojo by Jean-Georges, and after a morning spent comparing menus across the five boroughs, that is where we booked. We arrived on time, an hour before closing. Plenty of runway for three courses. Immediately, one of the three Restaurant Week appetizers was unavailable (the one my fiancée wanted), and another contained shrimp, which she's allergic to. Our server offered a swap from the à la carte menu, then returned to clarify that "swap" meant "additional charge." The final compromise: she'd get the watermelon gazpacho without shrimp, and mine "as advertised." The quotes are earned. The only difference between our bowls was a single unseasoned grilled shrimp floating in spicy watermelon juice that they called gazpacho. Presumably the seasoning was à la carte too. The entrées, to be fair, delivered: roasted chicken with lemon potato, 4/5; seared salmon with habanero-lime sauce, 4/5. The sear deserves its own review. Then a 15–20 minute wait for dessert in a near-empty dining room, watching staff haul garbage bags past our table, having apparently forgotten us. The finale: the peach cobbler my fiancée ordered with the rest of the meal (AN HOUR EARLIER) was NOW unavailable. She reluctantly copied my order for the warm chocolate cake with salted caramel ice cream, which arrived as a small lava cake. Fine by me (I love lava cake); less so for her. The lava cake and ice cream were what can be referred to as "just fine." Not wanting to stay to watch the lights go out, or be a burden on the staff any longer, my fiancée asked for her dessert to go. They botched that too (consistency is a virtue, I suppose). The ice cream container gave out before we were halfway home, leaking through the paper bag. At least the cake survived. Something had to. Two stars: one for each entrée, which the kitchen can execute. Everything surrounding the kitchen left much to be desired. For what we ended up paying, we'd have been better off skipping the prix fixe entirely and hand-picking a few à la carte dishes. At least those would have actually been available. The name on the door says Jean-Georges. The operation says "we close in an hour, please behave accordingly."
A Hidden Gem on the Upper East Side – An Unforgettable Dining Experience Dining at JoJo on the Upper East Side was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The moment we walked in, we were charmed by the warm, inviting atmosphere and the restaurant’s elegant yet cozy design. The second floor, in particular, feels like a romantic retreat—intimate, welcoming, and beautifully appointed. The service was outstanding: attentive, professional, and genuinely friendly, making us feel comfortable and well cared for throughout the evening. The true highlight, however, was the food. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. We began with the tuna tartare, which was incredibly fresh and perfectly paired with crisp lettuce for a wonderful contrast in texture. For our entrées, the chicken was a pleasant surprise and easily one of the best chicken dishes I’ve ever had. I rarely order chicken at restaurants, but this dish was outstanding. The filet was equally impressive—perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavor. To finish, we shared the carrot cake, which was absolutely delicious: moist, rich, and perfectly balanced in sweetness. The wine and cocktail selections were also excellent and complemented the meal beautifully. One thing we particularly appreciated was that many of the guests appeared to be locals—a strong indication of the restaurant’s consistent quality and loyal following. JoJo strikes the perfect balance between refined dining and the comforting feel of a home-cooked meal. We will absolutely be returning. If you’re looking for a memorable dining experience on the Upper East Side, JoJo is well worth a visit. Just be sure to make a reservation—it’s a popular spot for good reason.
I recently had dinner at JoJo by Jean-Georges and had a really enjoyable experience overall. The restaurant has a cozy and welcoming ambiance that makes it perfect for a dinner date or a family gathering. The service was impressive throughout the evening attentive, friendly, and professional without feeling intrusive. Most of the dishes we ordered were amazing and beautifully prepared, with great flavors and presentation. The only disappointment was the duck breast. Unfortunately, it came out overcooked and quite dry, which was surprising compared to the quality of the other dishes. Aside from that, everything else was excellent and made for a memorable dining experience. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a warm atmosphere, great service, and delicious food.
I recently visited JoJo by Jean-Georges and honestly loved everything about it. The food, the service, the whole atmosphere just feel so easy and beautiful at the same time. We ordered a few things and every single one was amazing. The spicy tuna tartare with salad was so fresh and perfectly balanced, the chicken was delicious, the lobster was cooked perfectly, and the burrata was just incredible. You can really taste the quality in everything. The crowd and vibe make it even better, it feels chic but still relaxed and comfortable. It is one of my favorite spots for brunch and I highly recommend P.S Louis waiter is the best !!
Have been meaning to go to this resteraunt as I pass it all the time. Decided to stop in for early dinner on a Thursday, sat down no problem. The fluke ceviche and salmon dish were out of this world. The ginger margarita was also amazing. Cannot recommend enough!!! 10/10
