Friend of a Farmer is one of the best breakfast spots on the Upper West Side. The menu focuses on comforting, well-prepared classics, and everything we tried was excellent. The sausages were full of flavor, the eggs were perfectly cooked, and I was pleasantly surprised by how good the vegetarian options were. If you have room, don’t skip the pancakes. They also serve excellent coffee. The service deserves special mention. Everyone was warm, welcoming, and attentive, creating a relaxed atmosphere that makes you want to linger over breakfast. One thing to keep in mind is that the restaurant is very popular, even on weekdays. It’s a good idea to arrive early or make a reservation if you don’t want to wait. With outstanding breakfast dishes, great coffee, and genuinely friendly service, Friend of a Farmer is an easy recommendation and a place I’d happily return to.
Corn Ribs appetizer was delicious, sweet, chewy and well-seasoned. The burger was fantastic, with tons of flavor it’s one of the best burgers in town. The shepherds pie was very good. It was a little unusual in that the added corn gave it had a touch of sweetness. Definitely make sure to get some apple corn bread. A house specialty, it’s a great appetizer or sweet enough for dessert. The atmosphere is old-world cozy, and service is good.
Beautiful place with a nice vibe. A place you can sit down and have a good chat with friends. I went with friends at work before heading over to Shen Yun at David Koch Theater. Overall, a great time with good food, nice friends and a great show!
ATMOSPHERE: I typically start my reviews mentioning the food because that’s obviously why you go to a restaurant but truly the atmosphere of this is incredible. think a high budget Cracker Barrel that feels truly homie and not kitschy at all. All of the decor was meticulously thought out. At the entrance are created with some soft atmosphere music and an adorable bar with a couple of high tops. As you enter this a private room on the side that can be made for a cozy intimate experience. As you walk toward the back of the restaurant he passed the kitchen with beautifully laid out dishes, cups plates, etc., and into the main dining space. The interior of the main dining room reminded me of a bed-and-breakfast that took place in the middle of nowhere a small town America. Beautiful sunroof, a fireplace and some elegantly hung woven bags, pots and pans. FOOD: I was able to enjoy breakfast in the meal. I had was delightful hidden open faced locks on toast, complete with cream cheese, red onions, and capers. I added a poached egg for an additional four dollars. My friend purchased a platter that contain Sweet n Savory sausages, eggs, and pancakes. She mentioned that she particularly likes to frequent this restaurant because they offer both sweet and savory in one dish. I love this experience so much that I cannot wait to come back again. This place is incredibly quaint with a really good food. Definitely worth another travel.
A bit pricier but worth every penny for healthy and unique fresh food options. The restaurant has a true farm to table feel, and the inside makes you feel like you are sitting in a cozy English cottage. The ambience and service were both fantastic. We loved everything we ordered, especially the shepherd’s pie. That was a total hit. The cornbread was also fantastic, and the quinoa salad was very fresh tasting. Definitely a great place if you are looking for a comforting and fresh dinner.
