First time at Altair and had a wonderful time! Place was nice and atmosphere was pleasant. Our server Anil was exceptional. He explained the menu items and made recommendations when asked. We tried their famous dinner roll, hamachi and artichoke tempura. For entree we had the duck and sea bass which were excellent. The duck was perfectly cooked. For dessert we had the tiramisu and berry shortcake, also very good. I prefer the tiramisu. We stayed quite a while and didn’t realize it was getting late. No pressure for us to leave though. Our experience overall was perfect and would highly recommend. It’s important to note that this is NYC so expect New York City prices. Thanks Anil for taking care of us.
Our first visit though we've stayed at the Arlo Midtown twice before. We'd met our waiter Troy the evening before at the rooftop bar, he recommended the duck which proved excellent (we mentioned to Troy we had a theater date to catch, he had our salads and entrees out almost before we knew, very well done that). The next night we sat in the patio section (lovely), I had the pork chop, and a very proper tiramisu I might add. Altogether very high marks for food and service. I look forward to our next visit
Our server Jasmine was fantastic! She went above and beyond to provide us excellent service. We call during brunch. I had the horchata cocktail and the altair burger (medium rare) and both were well made. Dessert was delicious too! We definitely will be back to try dinner!
Our waiter Camilo made excellent suggestions: mango cocktail with Shiso leaf/mango slice was an experience, the spring garlic dinner roll had an addicting honeycomb butter pairing, peak spring vegetables were beautifully plated, artichoke tempura stole our app hearts and the hanger steak and Atlantic salmon couldn’t have been more balanced. The ambiance was great! They have a rooftop called Art we plan to explore next time.
Altair, tucked into the back left corner of the Arlo Hotel, is one of the prettiest and most playful dining rooms in Manhattan. The space glows with this celestial, softly whimsical energy that feels fun the moment you walk in - stylish without ever feeling stiff. We ordered a wide range of dishes, and everything was beautifully executed. The Pumpkin Dinner Roll with cultured butter and honeycomb was warm and comforting. The Smoked Yukon Potato delivered far more depth than expected, and the Delicata Squash was bright, seasonal, and beautifully composed. The Beef Tartare was clean and balanced, and both the Hanger Steak and the Long Island Duck were cooked perfectly - bold flavors without heaviness. The cocktails were a highlight. We tried the Gin & Tonic, Smoked Coffee, Roasted Apples, Eucalyptus & Yuzu, and the Wild Mushroom from the Earth section. Each one was distinct, creative, and surprisingly well‑paired with the food - especially the smoked and mushroom‑driven drinks, which were far more elegant than their names suggest. Troy, our server, was exceptional. Warm, attentive, and genuinely invested in shaping the experience, he struck that perfect balance of being present without hovering. His recommendations were spot‑on and added so much to the evening. If there’s one note, it’s that the room does get a bit loud as the night goes on - not enough to detract from the experience, but worth knowing. Altair nails ambiance, food, and service in equal measure. Already looking forward to the next visit.
