I work abroad all year and travel the world constantly… when I tell you this is the best I’ve ever had I MEAN IT!! I will 100% be going out of my way to go here every time I’m in NY!! (I had the guac/chips and chicken tostadas ugh AMAZING!!)
We visited La Contenta late in the evening, after 9 PM, while exploring New York, and it was a great choice. The Mexican food was delicious, full of flavor, and freshly prepared. The restaurant is small, but that’s part of its charm. The bar, authentic Mexican music in the background, and a cold Mexican beer created an amazing atmosphere. If you’re looking for a cozy spot with great food and a genuine vibe, I highly recommend this place!
Mole was killer. We’re careful with chicken breast, since other places can make it dry, but it was great and delicious here. My nachos were awesome. Asked for hot sauce and they delivered with Serrano sauce. Will be back with friends. So good!!
Ventured out for our 26th wedding anniversary. Enchiladas Suizas de Pollo, Tacos de Pollo, guacamole, El Mayan and El Mariachi for drinks. Dinner was excellent, drinks even better. Service and atmosphere is always a plus. Thanks for hosting us through the years.
Great taste — but extremely overpriced for the portion size. I’ll be honest — the food was excellent. The black beans were a 10/10, and the rice was solid, around an 8 or 9. No complaints on flavor — it was well-seasoned and fresh. But for $13, the portions were way too small. Even if the containers had been filled to the top (they weren’t), they’re still very small to begin with. If you’re someone who doesn’t mind paying more for good taste and smaller portions, this might work for you. But for me — I can’t justify that price for so little food. There are people in this area who can afford that without blinking, but I’m budgeting every dollar. I need value, not just flavor. Great food. Just not worth the price. I won’t be going back.
