Such an amazing dining experience. From the service we encountered from the moment we set foot in the establishment from the moment we walked out… the incredible recommendations that had us crazing for more… the thoughtfully crafted cocktails… and the sheer energy of this space were unmatched.
I was really looking forward to dining here because I had heard so many great things about the food, but unfortunately my experience was disappointing. The biggest issue was the portion sizes compared to the prices. We actually asked our waitress if the clams dish was the correct portion for a $20 item because it seemed unusually small. She kindly took it back and had it comped, which I appreciated, but the dish itself had mostly shells with very little actual meat. We also ordered the curry crab. The flavor itself was good, but the curry spice overpowered the crab, and once again the portion size was underwhelming. There was much more sauce than crab, which made the dish feel disappointing for the price. The one bright spot was the service. Our waitress was incredibly kind and helpful, and all of the staff we interacted with were great. While the food didn’t live up to expectations, I really appreciated the hospitality.
I wanted to be spontaneous and try a restaurant in Williamsburg. We were greeted by Amanda and Che who were the friendliest host I have met in a long time. We didn't have reservations but a table opened up quickly. I love the esthetics of the restaurant and all the murals on the walls. Their spicy mango cocktail seems to be their top seller because almost every table had a glass, just be warned it comes with a whole chili pepper inside. I also tried non alcoholic Coco bah which was simple and refreshing. Food was all unique Thai food and flavorful. I told them I have a shrimp allergy on our lovely server Emma wrote on the menu what had shrimp or shrimp ingredients on the menu. For appetizers my friend tried the squid ink calamari and Grilled Pork Cheeks both incredible starters. My friend had the crab fried rice which is also popular in the restaurant and 30 day dry aged beef Kaprow. The dish looks like ground beef but the flavors were amazing with garlic, basil and hot chili. I will definitely want to go back and try other items on their menu.
Great spot and glad to have Fish Cheeks in Brooklyn. We loved all of our dishes. The famous coconut crab curry was great but the beef krapow stole the show for me. Also really enjoyed their sticky rice ice cream, it’s a must. Looking forward to more visits and working through the menu. I think Fish Cheeks is in the running for best Thai in NYC for sure. It’s also just a good damn restaurant period.
Steamed Fish, Squid Ink Calamari, Pork Belly Chili Garlic & the Oysters were my favorites here! Loved the bright & punchy flavors of each dish and the delicious sauce served with the oysters (happy hour deal is solid) Thai iced tea was a bit too milky for my liking, and the green curry left a bit to be desired - would take it up a notch if there was some meat/protein in there! Great place to catch up with friends over tasty Thai food.
