New York City Bagel-Baking Class with Award-Winning Baker
Join a 2-hour hands-on bagel-baking class in a Times Square bagel shop, ideal for food enthusiasts and home bakers seeking authentic New York bagel skills.
Description
Begin your experience with a warm welcome and an icebreaker to meet fellow participants. An award-winning baker will demonstrate the classic rope-and-loop bagel rolling technique, then guide you as you roll at least six bagels from scratch.
Observe a dough-making demonstration to understand the foundation of every great bagel. Learn to boil and seed your bagels, essential steps that create the iconic New York bagel texture and flavor, performing each step yourself under expert supervision.
Between dough development stages, explore behind the scenes of a busy bagel shop producing around 10,000 bagels daily. Your instructor will share the history of the bagel, from its 17th-century Polish origins through the rise of the Bagel Bakers' Union to modern New York bagels.
The class concludes with a tasting of your freshly baked bagels paired with gourmet spreads, smoked fish, and classic toppings, followed by a bagel trivia quiz. You’ll take home at least six bagels, the recipe, and skills to recreate them at home.
