Amazing oysters! Great happy hour deal at the bar. Ambience is grand and intimate at the same time. The bar and large staircase right at the entrance make a nice grand impression and yet the place is cozy and intimate. Great for a date! The only complaint is the wifi died before we closed our check so couldn't pay by the card. Staff wasn't too keen to accommodate the situation or offer solutions other than, you have to pay with cash and we can't even give you a receipt.
I have a very severe shellfish/fish allergy so I have to make sure restaurants are safe and can accommodate my allergies. After making my reservation, I reached out to the restaurant asking if that was possible and if there was anything on the menu that would be off limits, they assured me they had separate cooking stations and things would be fine. I showed up for my birthday reservation on 3/28 just to be told AFTER ordering and receiving appetizers that the things I ordered were fried in the same fryer as seafood. Had I not double checked before eating, things would've gotten very bad. So, I could not get any appetizer except flatbread which I did not want. I was then told everything fried was off limits....between the seafood and fried food 80% of the menu was off limits to my table. My waiter was kind, attentive, and such a sweetheart. I am disappointed in the restaurant though because I specifically asked, prior to, if anything was off limits and I was told otherwise. Had I known, I would've booked elsewhere. It is hard enough, as is, for me to find places to eat at and restaurants not being truthful, only makes it harder and dangerous. This honestly ruined my night but I was there for a celebration so I had to push it aside. The bread pudding was DELICIOUS but I was told it was brought to us as a complimentary birthday treat but I was definitely charged the $15 for it.
We celebrated birthday here. Great food and wine selection. Service was great too. We had grilled octopus along with tomahawk steak to share between 3. My son had steak and fries which he loved too. Deserts were great too. Highly recommend.
I had such a lovely experience here. I came in with my three-month-old puppy in a small carrier, and the staff handled everything with perfect balance — polite, calm, and professional. They didn’t make a big scene about my dog, but they also didn’t make us feel unwelcome. It felt respectful and natural. I truly appreciated that no unnecessary attention was drawn to my puppy. I understand the importance of boundaries and proper behavior in public spaces, and I simply wanted to enjoy a quiet meal. The atmosphere was relaxed, the people were kind, and my puppy didn’t disturb anyone at all. The food was absolutely delicious, the vibe was warm and inviting, and the whole experience felt effortless and comfortable. I’ll definitely be coming back.
We decided go to The Consulate for lunch before going on a walking tour a few blocks away. I've always wanted to try a Croque Madame and The Consulate dit not disappoint! The egg was cooked perfectly, the béchamel sauce was smooth and very tasty, the brioche was buttery and crisp around the edges, the ham front and center/very good and the side salad was dressed just right! I also ordered the French Onion Soup and can honestly say it was the best that I've had from any restaurant EVER. The service from the time we entered the restaurant to leaving was outstanding. The servers were patient, knew the menu top to bottom and were very attentive. The atmpsphere from the lighting to music gave the place a chill vibe and the whole experience was relaxing. A wonderful way to begin our pre-Thanksgiving vacation venture. I highly recommend The Consulate for a great meal. It's worth the calories, so make sure you have room to savor the experience!
