One of my favorite Indian restaurants in the US. Their butter crab, beef pepper fry and paneer methi were highlights. Get their chapati as bread. Excellent drinks too (rang de dhamaka in particular, the saffron really comes through. Paan drink was great too.) Good indian restaurants in the US are rare. Ones that match the quality of great places back home are even rarer. Kudos. One suggestion- the salt on the paneer methi seems intentionally restrained. I would've liked a bit more salt to help the methi come through better.

We already had high expectations from online and from a lot of our friends and they were still exceeded! From the moment we walked in to the moment we left we were so happy! Sanchali was our waitress and she is half the reason if not more why were so blown away. She was so attentive, kind, and helpful. She gave great recommendation and she felt like a friend. We pretty much just got what she recommended and we could not have been happier. I wish I could bring her to every restaurant we go to 😅 She even hand drew us a note with a dessert after my husband casually mentioned I was pregnant to de wig there were any items I shouldn’t have. We started off with a curry infused pomegranate mocktail— Prema. It was so flavorful and a little sweet but so unique. We also had the malai lassi with an also mixed in, we could have had this for dessert but it was one of my favorite things. We then got the crab and the chicken appetizers. The crab was the best crab we have ever had. The chicken was moist and perfectly cooked and seasoned. We then had the goat neck dum biriyani and it was spiced perfectly and one of the best biryanis I’ve ever had. We also tried the methi paneer and it was completely worth the hype. We can’t wait to tell everyone we know about how much we love Dhamaka!

Had such a great dining experience at Dhamaka recently. Our server, Shubham, took wonderful care of us and guided us through the menu with excellent recommendations for a fabulous meal. We started with the cocktails, Avocado Avatar and Ghee Whiz, both of which were fantastic and such fun, creative drinks. The Beef Pepper Fry and Paplet Fry were absolutely delicious and packed with flavor. We also loved the Short Rib Pulao, which arrived in the cutest little pressure cooker and tasted just as impressive as it looked. The Murgh Hari Mirch Korma served in a Le Creuset cocotte brought the perfect level of heat and spice, but surprisingly, the standout dish of the night for us was the Tawa Bhindi. We loved the desserts - Ras Malai and Rabdi and also the lava cake that Shubham gave us on the house. So good! Overall, an excellent meal with warm service, bold flavors, and such a memorable dining experience.

Dhamaka, NYC – A Lot of Hype, But Not Much of a Dhamaka for Vegetarians Yesterday, visited Dhamaka after hearing so much about it and honestly came away with mixed feelings. The first thing that struck me was that it doesn’t feel like a fine-dining restaurant at all. It’s located at the entrance of a shopping block and has more of a food-court vibe. The seating area is decent-sized with regular tables and bar-style high chairs. The aroma of ghee hits you the moment you walk in, which makes sense because their parathas seem to be one of the stars of the menu. In fact, the only bread options available were chapati and paratha. I visited with my family and we’re all vegetarians. Unfortunately, the vegetarian menu felt quite limited. We started with the Paneer Tikka and Kale Pakoda Chaat. The Paneer Tikka was a disappointment—just a couple of small cubes of paneer coated in spices. It neither looked nor tasted like the paneer tikka most of us are used to. The Kale Pakoda Chaat was dominated by the besan flavour and lacked the tangy, chatpata punch you’d expect from a good chaat. For the mains, we ordered Paneer Methi, Dal, Rice and the Triangle Paratha. The paneer in the paneer methi was fresh, soft and creamy, almost like homemade cottage cheese, but the gravy lacked depth and flavour. The dal tasted like a fairly ordinary toor dal tadka—comforting but nothing memorable. The rice and paratha were good, but again, not something that stood out. What surprised me most was the hype versus the actual vegetarian experience. The restaurant blocks $40 for reservations, prices are on the higher side (the Paneer Tikka was $22), and there’s an 18% gratuity added. With that level of expectation, I was hoping for flavours that would truly justify the buzz. Maybe Dhamaka is all about its non-vegetarian dishes—I noticed most tables around us were locals. But as a vegetarian, I left feeling underwhelmed. Not a bad meal by any means, just not the “Dhamaka” I was expecting. Rating (for vegetarians): 2.5/5 ⭐ Good atmosphere, great aroma, but limited vegetarian choices and flavours that didn’t live up to the hype.
