Reviews make it seem much scarier than it is, this hostel is more worth it for the price than anything else in the city. Only 2 beds per room, someone at the desk 24/7 and it was cleaner than I expected. Only issue is there no lockers in the room but my stuff was safe for the week at least.
If you only wanna save money in NYC, come here; but if you care about a safe, clean place, do not come here; I was scared about my own safetines and my stuff; I stayed one night, the mattress was terrible, couldn't rest, and it was a lot of noise.
