Smalls Jazz Club
New York
Avis
A lazy Sunday evening I chanced upon this bar and enjoyed the evening with an amazing cocktails. The jazz band is amazing.
I recommend booking tickets ahead of time and arriving early to get seats in the front. This is a very intimate ambiance. Definitely don’t come here if you’re not able to sit back, relax and enjoy the live music. There was a couple in front of us that were talking loudly — thankfully the staff told them to quiet down. Overall, we enjoyed our experience here. We felt like we teleported to New Orleans. They have a full bar and small snacks menu.
Located in West Village, this jazz venue offers a great range of good quality jazz live music. The staff were consistently friendly, welcoming, and attentive, and the drink prices felt reasonable by Manhattan standards. That said, the experience did not fully match my expectations. The venue is quite small and located in a basement space that felt less comfortable than I had anticipated. Admission was $35 (pre-booked) per person, and guests are also required to purchase at least one drink each. The performance itself was enjoyable, but at only 1 hour in length; much shorter than expected. After the show, guests are given less than 30 minutes to finish their drinks and leave before the next audience is admitted.
We didn't order any food. We only ordered some drinks (min. one drink order is required for one person). I personally think some of the drinks were kinda overpriced (a cup of tea and a bottle of water cost $6 each), but I guess it's mainly for the experience. We were there for a Danny Tobias Trio performance, and it was nothing short of excellence. Overall it was a great experience. We spent around $140 for 2 tickets, 3 cocktails & 1 tea + tipping.
I didn't have to wait too long in line to listen to the Jam session- guy at the Door was easy going and very attentive. This club showed only respectable, curteous and professional treament to its guest. Every song was a good surpise and Marc Devine was very sweet to everyone who had a question or just wanted to shake his hand. I got to listen to great musicians tonight including Mark capon, Jeff Mcgreggor & Greg Ruggiero. I am surely missing more but i don't remember all the names announced, ill post pics.
