I always stay in this neighbourhood when I come to New York City because it’s quieter at night but it’s still an easy hop skip and a jump to everything you’d want to visit. This is undoubtedly a beautiful hotel, but it is very high priced and yes, I realize it is New York City, but the room was a shoebox! I have also stayed at the Wall Street hotel. The rooms were much more spacious here and the staff were friendly. I found the staff at this hotel to be quite snobby.
The Beekman is inside one of the most beautiful buildings in New York. The atrium-style interior is absolutely stunning and made me want to just hang out there and admire the space. The building itself is truly iconic. Unfortunately, my stay left a lot to be desired. When I checked in, there was a wedding taking place, and the organization was absolutely chaotic. I wasn't able to check in until three hours after my scheduled check-in time, and I wasn't offered any type of compensation for the long wait. The way this hotel is run, it seemed like nobody really cares about what's going on. They simply rely on the beauty of the building to lure people in, without the service really mattering. The breakfast was also a sad affair. For such a beautiful space, I expected the food to be on par, but the avocado toast they served was disappointing. For a hotel of this caliber, I expected the breakfast to be more like the Thompson Central Park in terms of quality, but it left a lot to be desired. The rooms were slightly dated, which I understand comes with the territory of staying in a historic building. That said, I've stayed in other hotels housed in historic buildings where it felt like much more care had been put into decorating and maintaining the rooms. Overall, it's a shame that such a beautiful property is so poorly managed. It feels like they simply rely on the stunning interior to keep their rooms booked, when the service should be just as memorable as the building itself.
Honestly, I'm somewhat obsessed with this hotel. I came across it through the AMEX Fine Hotels program. I have stayed here at least 8 times now. The AMEX benefits are fantastic. Either way, the hotel is GORGEOUS with its "old New York" means surreal art vibe. They have helped me celebrate several milestones, always treating us to a nice little treat in celebrate. Restaurant is delicious. The rooms are beautiful and spacious. I LOVE this hotel!
Absolutely beautiful hotel. Great front desk and bell service. But leaving this review as I'm laying in bed in a room here because I am so miserable. It is so, SO loud. If you look at the layout of the hotel, it's built around an atrium. Art deco gorgeous, yes. Functional? Heck no. You can literally hear all the noise from Temple Court and tonight there's a special event being held there so it's even louder than last night. I'm extausted from a day of sightseeing and I literally cannot fall asleep because of the volume. They also dedicated 2 of the 3 elevators for the special event rather than hotel guests who need to get up to their rooms so waiting for the elevator was a pain in the ass earlier. Cool elevators, very historic. But not worth making paying guests suffer so Temple Court could host a party. Come on. Edit: I am not a light sleeper at all but street noises and guest noises (someone was banging their suitcase around in the atrium area around 2 in the morning) kept waking me up during the nights I stayed here. I'd consider staying here again because of the beauty of this hotel but I'll definitely bring earplugs.
