Reviews
Overall, it sits in the “classic ultra-luxury, old-world service” category rather than modern boutique or design-forward luxury. Guests typically choose it for its location, privacy, and traditional service model rather than contemporary amenities. What guests generally praise * Location: One of its strongest points. Directly across from Central Park and within walking distance of high-end shopping on Fifth Avenue. * Service style: Highly personalized, discreet, and formal. Many reviews describe staff as attentive without being intrusive. * Room quality: Suites and apartments are often noted as spacious (by NYC standards), with a residential feel rather than a standard hotel room layout. * Quiet atmosphere: Compared to newer luxury hotels, it tends to feel more private and less hectic.
I had pleasure to celebrate my birthday here. The Sherry-Netherland is probably the most peaceful luxury hotel experience you can have in Manhattan. What makes it truly special is that even in the absolute center of New York you almost never run into crowds or chaos which feels incredibly rare and valuable today. The hotel somehow protects you from the overload of the city while still placing you literally in the heart of it. Rooms are so QUIET. While you want them face the park, I’d recommend taking opposite view. The service is impeccable: every staff member is genuinely professional without ever becoming intrusive. Housekeeping was perfectly timed every single day our the room was always flawless! yet it never felt like someone was constantly entering your space or interrupting your stay. That balance is extremely hard to achieve, and they do it effortlessly. And then there’s the atmosphere. The Sherry doesn’t feel like “modern luxury hospitality theater.” It feels like the real New York so elegant and timeless. A version of the city that still has soul and calm instead of the nonstop frenzy of today’s Manhattan. Rooms are recently renovated and smell like new! Best experience. One of the best places to stay in New York! P.s. toddler enjoyed the same way :)
The boy plunger, Jesse Livermore had his last Old Fashioned at this bar then ended it in the cloakroom. Had to have an OF at the bar, it was very nice and only 5 seats at the bar. At the entrance are some frescos saved from the Vanderbilt Mansion.
Landmark historic hotel in the best location - over the road from Central Park & very central - it’s beautifully appointed, quiet & discreet. The staff are very polite and get to know guests quickly, so one feels right at home.
You won’t find a better group of staff than at this property. We’ve stayed here several times and every single person from the valet, front desk, elevator, housekeeping…. Stellar folks and exceptionally nice. The hotel itself is nice, but dated although maintained nicely. We return because we arrive and leave feeling great.
