First, the good. The staff were extremely friendly and pleasant, the bed was incredibly soft and comfortable, the coffee in the lobby was delicious, and the location is hard to beat. That's about it, though. We booked the most expensive room in the place, which promised "dazzling views" of an "enclosed private garden oasis," by which they mean a construction site. The bathroom had paint peeling off the ceiling and crumbling tiles and grout. The advertised "plush bathrobes" were missing, as was the shower soap. I've stayed in nicer hotels for a quarter the price. None of them came with a broken typewriter in the room, though, so if that's worth $1200 a night to you, then go for it.
The rooms are much noisier than expected. The air conditioning is loud, and from around 4 a.m. trucks on the avenue outside leave their engines running, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep. The décor tries to combine a casual, romantic atmosphere, but ends up feeling more derelict than charming. There are uninspiring paintings simply leaning against the walls instead of being hung, old books taking up valuable space, a tiny desk with a large, fixed decorative object on it, only two small drawers for your belongings, and very old carpets that don't inspire confidence in their cleanliness. Even the doors felt sticky to the touch. On the positive side, the bed is excellent, the bedding is very comfortable, and the shower maintains a perfect water temperature. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this hotel if you're looking for a quiet, practical place to stay, especially if you're planning to spend more than one or two nights.
Truly, nothing could have prepared me for the warmest of welcomes from Elvis and the team. I was immediately armed with a chic water bottle, an especially good coffee and whisked up to my room. The space was generous, as in cavernous, and faced a garden. You couldn’t make up the proportions, let alone two walk in wardrobes. The robes were so fluffy and heavy they couldn’t fit in suitcase- clever on the hotels part and divine for me. The service was exceptional and the vibe cool- without trying. Bikes are available for free. The bar outside is full of sophisticated people enjoying themselves. Heaven in NYC has been illuminated.
The High Line Hotel is perfectly located and has such an easy-going atmosphere. A charming place to stay in the middle of the city, yet it feels relaxed and welcoming from the moment you arrive. Great location, comfortable vibe, and a lovely base to enjoy New York at your own pace. Would happily stay again!
This was one of the most unpleasant hotel experiences I have ever had. The room was full of mosquitoes, and because the air conditioning wasn't working, it was extremely hot. I couldn't sleep at all and left with dozens of mosquito bites. On the positive side, the service is good, and the hotel is an older building with some charm. The mattress is very soft. In my opinion, the value for money is very low given the lack of basic comfort.
