I came to spend the last week in NYC, terrified after reading so many negative reports. But the stay was quiet, it's a 3-star hotel and period. Room was clean (daily cleaning if desired), hot shower water every day (open until the end) and air conditioning working normally. There are carpets in the corridors but it makes no difference, the doors are scandalous and the internet definitely doesn't work beyond the lobby. I was positively surprised, the location is PERFECT, it was really worth the cost benefit.
An experienced and seasoned traveler knows a gem when they find one. The Gallant is a gem. The location is fantastic. A 5 to 10 minute walk to any Broadway or off Broadway show. Terrific dining options and easy access to transportation. Plus being in Midtown, here a 30 minute walk to some of the best neighborhoods in the city both up towards the park and down towards the village. Just an incredible spot. All that for one of the lowest priced hotels in the city. The staff was extremely nice. From Irena at the front desk to the housekeeping woman who greeted me every time I passed her in the hallway and asked me if I needed anything for the room. Just a very nice group of people. But you don’t get a great location and a very inexpensive room without a trade-off. And the trade-off is that the hotel has some cosmetic issues that seem a little dated. From worn carpeting in the hallways too some dings on the furniture or on the walls. Personally, I plan to come back here as I think it’s one of the best deals in the city and I’m gonna be sad when they renovate this hotel and boost the prices by 100% or more. If you do book the gallivant, I would reach out and just see if you can have them check out the room for you in advance. That’s what I did and they booked me into a very clean lovely room. My room was up on the 11th floor and was very quiet. The mattress was brand new as far as I could tell, and believe me I always check the mattresses, and the bathroom was very clean. I really liked the room, but it was small and a bit utilitarian. You’re not gonna have a keurig coffee machine or a complementary fridge. Again, if those things mean something to you, then you’ll be disappointed. But if you’ve done a bit of traveling, and you value location, service, and a good price. Then I think you’ll find the gallivant is a gem too.
