I rated this hotel a 2 star solely based on the elevator experience. It’s not confusing, a lot of NYC hotels have elevators that tell you which one to use based on the requests. They do this to make the elevators more efficient, grouping people together and dividing the service needs. However, the elevators at the aloft Chelsea don’t do that. Instead, the three elevator bank has one that is broken, one that only goes to floors 7, 11, and 12, and one for everyone else. This means that when I forgot my umbrella, it took 10 minutes to wait for my one elevator, even when the mysterious 7, 11, 12 elevator came down, it took 3 out of nearly 8 floor requests. Then I, along with about 15 other people, squeezed into a single elevator and proceeded to stop at 8 floors, plus an additional 3 floors that staff needed to use with large towel bins. The staff had to wait because the elevator was full. If this happened once, hey I get it. But no, this is just the final straw. Every trip up and down took a significant wait, and this one I timed because my uber was waiting for me. As to the rest of the hotel, I had prechecked in on the app with the digital key, and still had to check in at the front desk for a 6pm arrival. Then they pushed the mobile key. The rooms are tiny even by nyc standards, but I’m traveling alone for work so fine with me. The “desk” is a floating bookshelf with a vanity stool, which would have been fine except for there is no outlet anywhere near it. I worked in bed (not the end of the world) but not my preference. The room is clean and I really liked the steamer over the iron! Walls are thin (could hear sneezing and one of my neighbors barfed in the morning) but I slept with earplugs just fine. Bed is very comfortable. Black out shades had little holes in several places on the edge, making it not totally dark, but overall okay.
Overall a good hotel. Rooms are slightly more spacious than other similarly priced hotels so the rooms are more comfortable (most NYC rooms at this price point are a bed with barely enough room to walk around it. Shower/bathroom were great. Service was very nice. Location is great - easily accessible to many things although it's a bit north for Chelsea. The elevators were occasionally a challenge - a fair amount of waiting. Otherwise, I felt a good value for the rate and would stay again.
We loved our stay at the Aloft! Very well located but quiet. We were upgraded to a room with city view which was fantastic! Room was clean, king bed was very comfortable, shower was amazing. Be aware that the toilet has a door but the shower and sink area are open, with no door. I liked the amenities: good quality body wash, shampoo and conditioner, makeup remover pads, hairdryer, steamer, tea and coffee.
Good hotel, excellent location, and the view from the room was amazing. I could easily give it 5 stars, but I’m giving it 3 because of the BREAKFAST. First of all, I wouldn’t really call it breakfast. The selection consists of random pre-packaged convenience foods, and you still have to wait 20–40 minutes for them. There’s also an excessive amount of plastic waste, since every item comes individually wrapped or in its own container. On top of that, every morning you have to go to the front desk to get a voucher. If someone happens to be checking in at that moment, you just have to stand there and wait. Who came up with this system? Overall, we really enjoyed the hotel. We usually stay in apartments, but this time we decided to try a hotel, and since breakfast was included, the price seemed quite reasonable. However, once we arrived, we quickly realized where the catch was. In my opinion, you should either remove the breakfast altogether or provide something more practical and enjoyable. That’s why I’m giving 3 stars instead of 5.
I recently visited the Aloft Chelsea for a quick overnight stay and was thrilled with the hotel and friendly service. My room was bright, clean, spacious, and had gorgeous city views with a comfortable bed, crisp bedding, and great pillows. Compared to other hotels in this area and price range, I found the Aloft Chelsea to be much cleaner and quieter. The space felt new and fresh, and we were well-insulated from both neighboring guest room and city noise. This is definitely the best Marriott property I have stayed at in some time. Plus, you can’t beat waking up right in the heart of the Flower District!
